When Pantone announced its 2019 color of the year last fall, we’ll be honest: Some of us instinctively wanted to shield our eyes. Living Coral is just so bright. How could we possibly incorporate such a bold pink-orange shade into our decor without making everything look a little gaudy?
But now, as we seek recovery from the long, dreary days of winter, we must say we’re on board with this vibrant trend that can infuse life into any space in your home.
“Spring has sprung, and cool undertones are fading into a distant memory,” says Justin M. Riordan, founder and designer at Spade and Archer Design Agency. “We are seeing flocks of people revolting against cool gray tones and rise up for color.”

Talk about a bold statement! Painting your vanity or cabinets in coral will make the whole space pop.
Of course, a daily dose of that much brightness isn’t for everyone, Riordan acknowledges.
“This color puts some punch into these spaces,” he says. “But if the thought of painting your kitchen or bathroom Living Coral is a bit too nail-biting, you can always infuse the color by adding coral linen, art, and accessories.”
Think: Coral napkins, dinnerware, or furniture that will add a little voom-voom to your existing color scheme.

If your bedroom is outfitted in neutrals, from your window coverings to your bedspread, then coral could be the perfect accent your sleep space has been waiting for.
“Coral can work really well in a bedroom,” says Kate Spiro, interior designer in New York City. “You can look to mix this color with muted or deeper tones, like terra cotta, to provide a tranquil feeling that is also balanced.”
A coral accent wall is a fun option for bedrooms. Or, just infuse the color with a coral throw, lamp, or rug.

After this brutal winter, perhaps you’re craving a tropical getaway. Coral decor brings the beach to you—open the windows and add some coral accessories to your living room to create a chic but relaxed vibe.
“Textiles and lamps are always a great way to bring color into the living room space without going overboard,” says Annabel Joy, interior designer and co-founder of Trim Design Co., in Boston. “Look for a vintage rug, vase, throw pillows, or a chinoiserie table lamp that has coral tones in the pattern. Or, if you’re looking to make a bolder statement and incorporate several trends at once, go for a curvy, velvet coral sofa.”

Front door/outdoor space

Don’t just limit coral to the interior of your home. This hue is the ultimate fun and inviting shade to paint your front door.
